General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Barrett esophagus is a complication of Gerd. In this disease normal squamous epithelium of the lower esophagus is replaced by columnar epithelium. this columnar epithelium is more prone for malignant transformation. Treatment of barrels esophagus is:

1. regular endoscopic biopsy for low grade dysplasia
2. ablation with laser
3. argon beam coagulation
4. ppi high doses for 3-6 months
5. resection

There is no such relation between marine water drinking and development of Gerd and Barrett.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pavani
