Does Distal Phalanges Of The Middle Right Hand Amputation Require Surgery?

I m working on an assignment for Uni - preparing a return to work for a labourer who has had the distal phalanges of the middle right hand amputated. Would this require the wound to be open? As this will effect the type of duties he could perform during the first four weeks after operation, can you tell me what a person would or would not be capable of doing in the workplace?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Yes wound healing after amputation needs at least 2 weeks. And proper amputation for good function require good surgery by a hand surgeon.
