Does Anastrozole Cause Numbness In Finger?

I HAVE BREAST CANCER AND HAD MY LEFT BREAST REMOVED. I NOW TAKE ANASTROZOLE FOR 5 YEARS. I HAVE TAKEN IT FOR 21/2 YEARS. My pinkie finger and part of my ring finger on my right side is numb and weak. Do you think the medication is causing this? Vivian

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Numbness in fingers is mostly caused by peripheral nerve damage. There are many causes of peripheral nerve damage such as diabetes, neuritis, chronic renal failure, leprosy, vertebral compression, vasculitis, shingles and hypothyroidism etc. Anastrozole does not cause neuropathy as a side effect.
Advice
1.     Methylcobalamin 500 mcg once daily per oral for 3 months
2.     Consult a general physician for general examination of your hand for any enlargement of your radial nerve
3.     Continue anastrozole as suggested
4.     Investigations
a.     blood sugar (F & PP)
b.     serum T4 & TSH
Thanks
