Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had an anal absess three years ago. I went to the dr. Had it drained in his office a couple of times. Then had surgery, but dr didnt solve the problem. He said he couldnt find the fistula . It actually went away. Now after two years I feel it coming back in the same area. A little swollen and a couple of days goes away and then comes back. To busy for me to go see dr right now because I m busy with Xmas. Is it dangerous. Can it wait till I m in real pain or discomfort. One more question should I be worried it might turn cancerous?
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Recurring anal abscess does not lead to cancer. Based on the history you seem to have developed recurrent fistula in ano. You are advised to consult a surgeon for proper evaluation and certain lab tests such as fistulogram to find out the extent of the tract like its internal opening etc. Based on the fistulogram report you need to undergo the surgical removal of the fistulous tract completely.
Hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
