I cut an area the size of dime on the surface of my left thumb with a kitchen knife. The cut is parallel to the surface and is maybe a 1/12 or 1/10 of an inch deep. The skin is attached on one side by about 3/8 to 1/2 inch. I ran it under cold water held it with paper towel for a couple of minutes and have placed a band aid on it. The bleeding has mostly stopped -(blood showing under the band aid). My questions are: will the cut skin heal or need to be removed? Is Neosporin and band aids adequate treatment? It is mildly throbbing at about 20 minutes afterwards. Tim
Yes. Your knife cut injury will heal by itself in 7-8 days. You did right thing with your injury to stop the bleeding by applying band aids. Neosporin or any other antiseptic cream is adequate treatment. Just avoid water contact of your injured thumb for next 4-5 days. your cut skin will heal itself no need to be removed. Take tetanus injection at your local doctor.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
