General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Yes, certain atmospheric conditions like low temperatures, low barometric pressure and precipitation (humidity) can increase pain and swelling in patients suffering from autoimmune arthritis such as lupus or connective tissue disorders. Climate change can also affect the exercise routines.

Apart from cutting back sugars and refined carbs, you should also avoid the following;

1. Alcohol and smoking (if any).

2. Foods which are heated, grilled, fried or pasteurized which produce toxin like an advanced glycation end product (AGE)

3. Preservatives and additives.

4. Prepared meals (which contain high sodium)

Following foods which have proven to be 'anti-inflammatory' should be taken like;

1. Fresh fruits and vegetables

2. Omega-3 fatty acids containing fish like salmon, mackerel, sardines and trout and olive oil, nuts, flax seeds, and pumpkin seeds

Make sure your daily activities include healthy meal choices, regular exercise, and quality sleep.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
