Does A UTI Cause Severe Abdominal Pain?

Can a uti cause strong pain? I believe I have some of the symptoms of uti but fever and no burning sensation when I urinate. Yesterday I took 800mg of ibuprofen and finally my pain went away but started again after 4-5hours. The pain was so strong I thought it was hernia at the beginning

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
What severe abdominal pain you are experiencing could be due to presence of urinary calculi (kidney stones) along with presence of infection of urinary tract. Such pain is experienced intermittently when stone gets struck in the ureter.
Kindly get the following investigations done.
1. Urine routine examination and microscopy.
2. Ultrasound scan of the abdomen.
Kindly consult Urologist with the report for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best and wish you good health.
Regards,
Dr.Ashakiran.S.
