Does Tamiflu Cause Chronic Cough?

I was diagnosed with Influenza A last Monday, March 12th. The doctor started me on Tamiflu for five days. I finished the Tamiflu on Friday. The fever is gone but I have a cough and lots of sinus drainage. Just saw that a cough can be a side effect of Tamiflu. Is it normal to still be coughing?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I read your query and understood your complaint.

I do not think that your cough is because of the Tamiflu. Most patients who have influenza have cough for a couple more weeks even after the fever subsides.I need to know more about your cough like;

1)Is your cough producing any phlegm?if yes ,then what color is it?Any blood in it?
2)Are you having the cough all the time or just when you are lying down?
3)Are you having any shortness of breath?

From my judgement, I think it could be "postnasal drip",which means the sinus drainage is irritating your mucosa and causing cough.You can try taking steam/saline spray to clear your sinuses or Antihistamine tablets like Cetirizine at night.

Hope I have answered your query!You can get back to me if you have more queries. Get well soon!
