Does TPHA Assay Show False Positive Result Due To Viral Infections?

hi! Good Day! I have a result of my blood test -TPHA nonreactive gray assay, the clinic / physician won t give me the FIT to work certificate for my overseas employment, since the values of my result (0.277) were borderline as what the clinic staff says. I have to repeat the test 2times and the result must be both negative. I have consulted other specialists (OB-GYNE, INTERNAL MED, INFECTIOUS Doctors) they said it s nonreactive nothing to worry. There s a false positive result of TPHA due to viral infections. I m so worried, my husband and I don t practice multiple partners. I really need to have the clearance from that clinic.

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
There is no possibility of False positive result with TPHA, as its a specific test and the antigen is derived from Treponema Pallidum if it had been performed correctly.
At the same time, there is nothing like borderline. Either negative or a positive result only. Anything below the cut off value is negative only. The values did reflect the severity of the disease.
