General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The first step in a sexually active woman with delayed periods is to have a pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy.

If pregnancy is ruled out due to at least 2 pregnancy tests 3 days apart then pregnancy is not the cause of delayed periods and there is no need to get treatment to induce them.

Generally, we recommend the patient to wait another couple of weeks or so and most of the times the periods come.

If the periods don't come in 2-3 weeks time you will need a visit with the doctor first before you try any treatment to make sure which is the cause of the delayed periods.

And if the doctor suspects it is related to hormonal reasons he might prescribe you with Regestrone or oral contraception to help you have your periods.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
