Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My gastroenterologist says I need to take Prilosec daily for GERD. My cardiologist says no, take Tums , but doesn t say why. My own online investigation says that Prilosec can slow the absorption of warfarin, and I am taking warfarin; 5 mg tablet -- whole tablet on Mon. and Fri, 1/2 tablet on other days. My blood is tested regularly and can be adjusted if I want to eat a salad with broccoli or kale. The two doctors do not seem to talk to each other. Any suggestions?
Prisolec (omperazole) is an excellent treatment for GERD though it can at times increase the concentration of warfarin making it more potent in the blood (so you blood test INR goes up). I suggest continue taking regular blood tests for it and change the dose according to the result if its not within range.
Kind Regards
