Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My cardiologist prescribed 75 mg of Plavix to be taken once daily (evening). He also prescribed 324 mg of aspirin to be taken once daily (morning). From what I read from various sites on-line this combination could be dangerous to me. Should I do this?
Hi & Welcome. Yes, it may increase the risk of bleeding.
Both Plavix (Clopidogrel) and Aspirin are the anti-platelet medications ("blood thinners"). Their most common adverse effect is bleeding.
So, this combination may cause unusual bleeding, severe abdominal pain, weakness, and the appearance of black, tarry stools. If you take both medications together, tell your doctor if you have any of these symptoms.
You may need a dose adjustment if you take both medications. You should also avoid any other over-the-counter non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Hope this answers your queries.
