Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I started taking the weight lose drug phentermine almost a month ago, in the last week I have had a genital herpe outbreak. This is only the second outbreak I have had since getting it 5 years ago. Could phentermine be the cause of the outbreak? Or could it be the lack of food and nutrition, and stress my body has been through the last few months, even though I ve felt amazing?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Phentermine is a stimulant similar to an amphetamine. It acts as an appetite suppressant by affecting the central nervous system. It is used together along with diet and exercise to treat obesity (overweight). Use of this medication is not related to the development of herpes. Herpes is a viral infection and is also transmissible from one person to another via sexual contact. Many a times, such infections could flare up when a person's immunity is low along with the viral load a person has been contacted with. Kindly seek medical attention promptly for proper treatment of the same. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
