Does Persantine Interact With Aspirin?

My husband is a recent LVAD patient. This is being called a bridge to a heart transplant. He had two very minor strokes (only mild dysarthria with no physical involvement of the extremities) within 21/2 weeks of each other. He is on Warfarin, aspirin, and now persantine is being added. He is also taking endoparxin injections when his Coumadin levels drop from therapeutic range. Question: is persantine contraindicated with aspirin?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Dipyridamole (Persantine) is an anti-platelet drug and can be given along with aspirin. In fact, Dipyridamole & Aspirin together (200 mg extended-release dipyridamole/25 mg aspirin) is available in oral tablet form.

The only precaution is the simultaneous use of PPI (proton pump inhibitor) like pantoprazole to reduce the risk of GI bleeding.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
