Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Thank you! I currently take paroxtene as an anti-depressant. Will that interfere with taking gabapentin? Also, is it appropriate to take gabapentin for the nerve pain from 5 bulging discs? My doctor hesitates to prescribe pain relievers. My email is YYYY@YYYY Thank you
Dear, Thanks for contacting HCM I want to inform you that the use of paroxtine with gabapentin was increase chances of side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating. I don't know what is your age and what is your profession but i would recommend you to not to drive or operate any heavy machinery until you are sure you don't have drowsiness, difficulty in concentration and dizziness with the use of these drugs. If you are elderly you may experience impairment in thinking, judgment, and motor coordination. Please continue to use your medication and report to your doctor if any side effect appear. Now regarding the use of gabapentin, i have been using gabapentin in my patients for neurogenic pain and it is generally the first line of treatment for such type of pain. Hope this has helped you Regards
