Does Otocomb Otic Ointment Cause Blocked Ears?

I have been prescribed otocomb otic to treat otitis externa. After several applications (at 4 hour intervals) my ears feel blocked and I have reduced hearing. It feels like the drops are stuck in the ear canal. Is that normal, or are the drops supposed to leak out?

Hi,

Otocomb otic ointment/ drops are used to relieve the symptoms of itching, burning, pain or inflammation etc. due to presence of any infection in the external ear or ear canal. It has multiple ingredients consisting of anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial as well as anti-fungal ingredients and hence is effective for relief of symptoms of ear.

However, as the solution of this drop is viscous, hence may cause the symptoms of ear block & hearing loss itself. Also, it can mimic the signs of active infection due to its appearance, many a times. Hence, if you are having the symptoms of ear block and hearing loss, you should stop using this drug and see your doctor for further management, particularly, there may be increase in infection / inflammation etc., which needs treatment under guidance of your doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
