Does Nasonex Cause Vitreous Detachment, Floaters Or Retinal Detachment?

Does Nasonex cause vitreous detachment, floaters or retinal detachment? I used Nasonex for years for allergies but have experienced severe eye problems, including scleral buckle, vitrectomy and laser surgery in my left eye and now my right eye is starting to have problems. My vision was 20/20 and now I m practically blind in my left eye and experiencing severe floaters in the right.

Hi,

Nasonex (mometasone furoate) is a nasal spray used to treat nasal allergy symptoms such as congestion, sneezing, and runny nose. While Nasonex is primarily designed to work in the nasal passages, it can be absorbed into the bloodstream and potentially have effects throughout the body.

There is currently no known direct link between Nasonex and vitreous detachment, floaters, or retinal detachment. However, it is important to note that any medication can potentially have side effects or interactions that may vary from person to person.

Your eye problems may be related to other factors, such as age-related changes in the eye or pre-existing medical conditions. It is important to speak with your ophthalmologist or healthcare provider about your symptoms and concerns and to have a thorough eye examination to determine the underlying cause of your vision problems.

If you suspect that your eye problems may be related to Nasonex use, it is also important to discuss this with your healthcare provider, who may be able to suggest alternative treatment options or adjust your current medication regimen as needed.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
