Does Mirtazapine Causes Chemical Odor In The Nose And Untasty Food?

I have been experiencing a chemical odor in my nose and my food has not been tasting good. I was taking mirtazapine dissolving tablets and stopped because of the smell in my nose. Would that have anything to do with the odor? I have been off the medication for 5 days and the smell is still awful.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Change in taste and dry mouth are common side effects of mirtazapine. Change in odour is not so common.

It comes possibly by the dry nasal mucosa. Stop it gradually to regain taste and smell.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Olgeta Xhufka , General & Family Physician
