Does Lisinopril Cause Elevation In BP Levels?

I have been prescribed 2.5 mg of lisinopril for mitral valve condition. Whenever I test my BP, it is always higher than before I started using the drug - 2 months ago. I am questioning if I should even be taking it. My BP was borderline before starting lisinopril. Thank you.

Hi,

Lisinopril does not cause any rise in blood pressure. This drug is rather used to lower blood pressure .We commonly use this to control BP in patients who suffer from high BP.

You should check you BP for a few days and if it's high, if it's high then you should discuss with your doctor as you may need to increase the dose of lisinopril to control BP.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
