Does Imipramine Hydrochloride Interact With Zoloft?

I have been prescribed Imipramine Hcl 50 Mg once daily. I am continuing to take Zoloft at 50 Mg per day as well. The Imipramine is taken to help with incontinence resulting from radical prostectomy. The Zoloft has been taken a long time for depression. Is there any problem with taking these together, in your opinion?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.
Yes, it may cause harmful interactions.

If taken together Zoloft (Sertraline) may increase the side effects of Imipramine such as dry mouth, increased heart beats, blurred vision, constipation, or urinary retention. It may also cause altered consciousness, confusion, drowsiness, poor muscle coordination, abdominal cramping, shivering, sweating, and high blood pressure.

So consult your treating doctor for an alternate effective and safer medication for your urinary incontinence or your doctor may adjust the dose of these medications to prevent these drug-drug harmful interactions if taken together.

Hope this answers your query.
