Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband takes Gabepentin 2 300mg 3x a day. I am seeing mood swings, irrtitability, being grouchy, only thinking of himself . . . I am seeing this every day. . . Certainly not the sweet man I married 21 yrs ago. Are these side effects normal w/this med? I realize everyone is different & reacts differently.
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Gabapentin is a medication which is used to treat partial seizures, neuropathic pain, hot flashes and restless legs syndrome. Common side effects of Gabapentin include dizziness, fatigue, drowsiness, ataxia, swelling of extremities, nystagmus and tremor. A small number of people may experience depression, suicidal thoughts/attempts, or other mental/mood problems. You need to seek medical attention promptly if you notice any unusual/sudden changes in your mood, thoughts, or behaviour.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
