Does Gabapentin Cause Anxiety And Insomnia?

Hi Dr. Andrew, my doctor prescribed me gabapentin 100 mg capsule for restless leg syndrome and neuropathy. I am taking it at bedtime, but it seems to make me nervous and jittery and I cannot get right to sleep. Is this a side affect people have? I may want to stop it, but I read there is a withdrawal. I have only been taking it for 5 days increasing the tablet amounts each day. 1 tablet for 3days, now 2 tablets, then supposed to take 3 tablets.

Hi,

The given symptoms of nervousness and jittery feeling may not be due to drug Gabapentin that you are taking. It could be due to fibromyalgia itself and not the drug, not even is the withdrawal of the drug. But still, you can stop taking it for some days. If you experience the same symptoms then it can be something else and not the drug. If the symptoms disappear you need to start taking the drug after some time for final confirmation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
