Does Doxycycline Interact With Flagyl?

My PCP is out of town and I have been on Ceftin and steroids for 10 days. I am a nurse and have had a fungal sinus infection once before. I still am having thick dark green sinus mucus, but the Nurse practitioner sent me Doxycycline. I have the Flagyl here at the house and started myself on it with the last dose of the Ceftin. Can you take Doxycycline and Flagyl together? I won t hold you responsible if you say it is ok. I know no etoh with it.

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Hello,

As you explain the situation I can recommend you to use only Doxycycline, not both. Usually, we don't prefer Flagyl for sinusitis it is not so useful. The first choice is cephalosporins such as Augmentin for sinusitis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Jnikolla, Pulmonologist
