Does Depo-Medrol Injection For Allergies Cause Delay In Menstrual Periods?

I get the depo medrol 80 mg injection for my allergies, and i got one recently a day before my cycle was due to start, which is always on time, and my cycle came a week late, and its been on every since for almost 3 weeks. Is this a side effect? Im 44 years old, no fibroids never had any complicatios with my cycle, no chances of pregnancy.

Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns about delayed periods.

Although delay in periods is not a prominent side effect of steroid use but it is one of the side effects commonly observed among middle aged women.

This happens because the menstrual cycle is regulated by hormones which are steroidal in nature. The use of depo medrol changes the homeostasis among female sexual hormones thus causing delayed period as side effects.

I hope this answers you.
Thanks and regards.
