Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is understandable to be concerned about weight gain. Medications can cause weight gain by increasing appetite or decreasing energy/activity levels or decreasing satiety/fullness or affecting metabolism.

Birth control pills can mainly affect appetite. Using foods and drinks that would not cause weight gain even if used in excess would prevent any weight gain from occurring. There are some women who never gain any weight from birth control pills by consciously controlling what they eat/drink and making sure to remain active.

In terms of the bleeding, if the pill is causing you to have abnormal bleeding, you may need an alternative that may work better for you.

I hope this helps.
