Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my daughter was recently diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and after taking Prednisone for 2 weeks and lialda for one week she is now hospitalized with anemia being the main cause of inflammation....now looking to do canassa as a means of getting meds into her - is the risk the same as lialda?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Lialda is composed of 'mesalamine', which affects a substance in the body that causes inflammation, tissue damage and diarrhea. It is used to treat active, mild to moderate ulcerative colitis. Canasa is also composed of 'mesalamine'. It is available as 1000 mg rectal suppository and is used to treat adults with active ulcerative rectal colitis. It has the same effects as Lialda. Since it is to be inserted per rectally, Canasa can help to overcome certain side effects caused by Lailda such as dyspepsia and vomiting. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best. Regards, Dr.Ashakiran.S., MBBS., MD.
