Does CPAP Cause Cough And Congestion?

I am 61, female 5 3 and am quite overweight. I have been treated for asthma and periodic bouts of pneumonia and bronchitis most of my adult life. I have been using a CPAP since May, and have been suffering severe cough and congestion since. All tests have returned clear. Could it be the CPAP?

Hello,

Welcome to HCM
Nasal and chest congestion have been recognised as the side effects of CPAP. Cough can occur secondary to increased nasal discharge and a post nasal drip. The post nasal drip can be the cause for your cough. In such a situation, all tests for infection etc would be negative as in your case.
You can reduce this by using a vasoconstrictive nasal spray before you put on the CPAP.
I am available if you have more queries.
Wish you good health.
