My husband was in the hospital this week for a possible GI bleed and was put on IV Protonix and Octreotide. He had severe agitation and was given Adivan. I thought it was the Octreotide that was causing the agitation because he had taken Protonix previously. When he left the hospital Thursday evening, he was given a prescription for oral Protonix. He started taking it Thursday night. Currently he is very agitated, pacing like a caged tiger. This is Saturday and his doctor is not available. Do I take him back to the hospital or would something like Benedryl work to stop the agitation. He has a history if a liver transplant on 3/1/2000, is in Stage 5 kidney disease and is n dialysis. He had Spinal Meningitis in July 2010 and as a result has complex seizures with atonics.
