Does Aspirin Help As A Blood Thinner?

I have recently diagnosed with afib and was prescribed a blood thinner. I have a lot of allergies with meds, and I would like to know all names of the blood thinners and the ones with the least side effects. I am 74 years old and have thyroid disease, hypertension, fibromyalgia, had breast cancer, since cured. Will aspirin help as a blood thinner and what dosage? I am also disabled and can t pay for this consultation, so I will withdraw my questions. Thank you for the possible solution for my problem. Laura First of all it would be nice if I had the money, but I don t..Thank anyway sincerely

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
Yes aspirin in low doses of 75 to 150 mg act as blood thinner by preventing platelet aggregation. Aspirin is well tolerated at these low doses & could have side effects like bleeding( both external & internal), gastro-intestinal disturbances like acidity etc.
Other Blood thinner that is used is clopidogrel, it is very potent or effective blood thinner & is therefore more prone to cause bleeding like problems on slight injury.
Other blood thinners that may be used sometimes are basically anti-coagulants which prevent coagulation of blood. These are warfarin, heparin & apixabin. They are used when high blood thinning property or anti-coagulation is needed.

Consult your cardiologist & let him decide which blood thinner should be used in your case. Self medication in heart diseases is very dangerous

Hope i have solved your query
