Hi-I m using metoprolol succinate er 50mg and 81mg aspirin--my doctor advise me to start use aplxaban 5mg tablets--twice a day --primary diagnosis:I48.0 other diagnoses F17.200----paroxysmal atrial fibrillation--My question is--Apixaban is very expensive--about $ 385.00 per month--is there much,much less expensive other medicine i can use--Thanks for reply--Jerry.
Your concern is very right, Apixaban is very expensive, and using it forever is quite a burden on the pocket.
These drugs are used to avoid any clot formation in the blood. They cause blood thinning.
There are a few alternatives to apixaban which may be used. These include Rivaroxaban and Warfarin. Warfarin is very cheaper but needs monitoring regularly.
You can discuss these options with your doctor you should convey your concern, I am sure they will art it out some way.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Mahboob Ur Rahman , General & Family Physician
