Does Amitriptyline Cause Adverse Side Effects In The Long Run?

I m 75 and have been taking 25mg amitryptiline off and on for several years (one at bedtime) now my PPO pharmacy refuses to fill it for me. I am not frail or incapacitated nor do I use alcohol or any other sedatives. I am healthy and active - I don t want to take something else that I am unfamiliar with. What s the problem? Thanks Art

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Long term use of CNS drugs is not recommended and might cause some problems. You can try other drugs like citaloptam or clonazepam.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
