Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My child takes 10mg of Adderall once in the morning and afternoon. I m worried. I read that the FDA and the DOJ does not use cocaine as an ingredient in Adderall. My child is doing better in school because he can focus bringing home straight A s paying attention being more focused everything any parent wants but if it contains cocaine, no matter how well it works I don t want my child hooked on a medicine that has cocaine in it. Is cocaine in it or should I just ignore the person as an idiot?
Adderall does not contain cocaine. The active ingredients in adderall has amphetamine and dextroampetamine. So, your child is definitely not on cocaine that has high abuse potential. But having said so, adderall too has moderate addictive potential. Please use the drug as prescribed by the physician. Do not increase the dose without physician guidance. Along with medications, cognitive and behavioural therapy also goes a long way in addressing ADHD. All the best for your child. Hope he will have the best future.
