Does Acetaminophen Help In The Treatment Of An Enlarged Prostate?

I’ve found that Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen relieves my enlarged prostate. I don’t get up at night at all. However my doctor will not prescribe it for that purpose. I can get Acetaminophen without a prescription. Do you think the Acetaminophen may be relieving the prostate? YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate, any other medical illness, etcetera. Acetaminophen is not effective in the treatment of an enlarged prostate. Hydrocodone plus Acetaminophen combination is used to relieve moderate to moderately severe pain.

Acetaminophen is an analgesic ('pain reliever') used to treat mild to moderate pain (from headaches, menstrual periods, toothaches, backaches, osteoarthritis, or cold or flu aches and pains) and also to reduce fever. It is not helpful or effective in the treatment of and enlargement prostate.

Hydrocodone (an opioid) is a stronger analgesic (pain medicines) commonly prescribed for the treatment of moderate to severe pain. It is also not helpful in relieving the symptoms of an enlarged prostate. You are advised to consult a urologist for proper evaluation and use of effective drugs like Tamsulosin or Finasteride to control your symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
