Do Stitches Dissolve On Their Own?

I had surgery five and a half weeks ago and i have one disolvable stitch that won t come out/dissolve. I am nervous it needs to be removed. Should i have a doctor remove it or is it normal for it to take this long for it to didsolve? All the others were gone weeks ago.
