Do Severe Back Pain And Diarrhea Suggest Viral Infection In The Intestines?

I have had the feeling that I couldn t completely empty my bowels when I went to the bathroom. This last week I have had cramping and diareha along with severe pain in my lower back. Is this a viral infection in my intestines or could I have developed IBS?

Hello,

The severe back pain with diarrhea indicates various reasons and out of which one is a viral infection of the intestine.

The definition of IBS goes to recurrent episodes of GI disturbances
with known triggers like stress or else.

Primary care with current infection and due dietary care is demand of time and if the later recurrent issue is there, one can think of the different spectrum of IBS or else, but not in the first instance.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

General & Family Physician Dr. Dr.Albana Sejdini's  Response
Hello,

If this is a recent happening, could be due to viral infection.
Should take:
- plenty of fluids, water with oral rehydration salts
- tasectan or pepto bismol for diarrhea
- probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora

If still no improvement, should proceed with a gastroenterologist and run stool examination for ova/parasites and fecal culture and sensitivity testing to determine the right diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
