Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi...I m a 46 year old white male. Over the past two years I ve had five separate occasions where I ve noticed blood after having a bowel movement (small amounts on the toilet paper or stool) I ve been to my family doctor and a gastronologist and was diagnosed with hemorrhoids. Blood work has been normal as recently as last Thursday. Over the past week I ve had a fairly bad upper respitory infection and noticed that my stools are looser / smaller than normal. Not pencil shaped, but, different (shape / consistency). Not liquid nor constipated. I would not describe my stools as ever being a typical 4 on the Bristol scale. My question has to do with colon cancer. Should I be concerned based on these symptoms? No family history of colon cancer on either side (father or mother). I ve been on 10mg s of Lexapro for the past 8 years for anxiety issues with particular emphasis on health anxiety. Thoughts? I m worried about colon cancer.
Hi Welcome to HCM I really appreciate your concerns , but let me tell you , there are extremely rare or rather no chances of hemorrhoids turning malignant and leading to cancer . Symptoms which you are having may be because of the antibiotics that you must have taken for your respiratory tract infection (if you have taken them). So , i would say , there is no need to worry about colon cancer. Thankyou.
