Do Antibiotics Taken For Parkinson S Disease Cause Psychotic Symptoms?

Hello. I am Dr. Paul Bryan, psychologist. I am treating a patient, 69 years old. She has Parkinson s disease. I believe she may be experiencing psychotic symptoms, mostly delusional in nature. She is on Sinemet, along with some other medications. She has no history of a psychiatric nature wherein she has been treated for a serious mental disorder, such as schizophrenia or a bipolar disorder. I am wondering if the medication and/or her condition itself might be why she is experiencing these psychotic symptoms. Look forward to your feedback. Thanks.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

If symptoms persist, better to consult a neurologist and plan for an MRI brain to rule out possible intracranial (inside the brain) causes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
