Do Melatonin And Verapamil Interact With Each Other?

Have trouble sleeping and tried taking 5 mg of melatonin for 5 nights and it wasn t that helpful. So last night I took 10 mg and slept better. However, I take Verampamil in the mornings and apparently there is an interaction between these. Can you clarify? And is 10 mg too much? I am 76 years old.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HCM

There is no safety issue for taking Verapamil along with Melatonin. The only problem is that verapamil decreases the efficacy of melatonin by getting rid of melatonin from the body very soon. You can take 10 mg of melatonin for sleep issues. The dose is not too high.
