Do I Have To Reduce Alcohol Intake While Having Horseshoe Kidney?

I m 42 and I just learned yesterday that I have horseshoe kidney via CT-scan. My primary Dr. said that it is fine since no disease or other appear on CT-scan. My question is that do I have to reduce my intake of alcohol like wine sometime beer? Also, other question is that since I have horseshoe kidney, does it mean that I only have one kidney or two kidneys that join together? Thanks!

Hello my friend
Thanks for your question on HCM

A horseshoe kidney develops if the two developed kidneys are connected to each other at the lower part and grow together. In most case, it won’t affect kidney function and about a third of all children with a horseshoe kidney will have no symptoms at all.
In approximately some cases it causes one symptoms like Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs), kidney stones,Hydronephrosis, back pain or abdominal pain.
Foods to consume include:
1. Light and digestible food: Cabbages, cauliflower, lettuce, cucumber, raw onions, bitter gourd, artichoke;Cranberry, apples, avocado, lemon, cherry.
2. Take high-quality protein diet: Egg white, fish, milk, tofu are good choices.
3.Ensure intake of foods that are in carbohydrate
Grains like oats, barely, potatoes, Chinese yams, corns are good to be taken as the sources of carbohydrates.
4. Eat less some foods: Seafood, beef, mutton, alcohol and spicy and stimulant food, like chili, coffee ecttc
About alcohol my opinion is to not drink at all any type of alcohol .

Hope this information is helpful to you
Best regards
