Do Hydrocodone And Flexeril Cause Severe Headaches?

My doctor suspects that my headaches are caused by temporal arthritis, symptoms are mor close to this than to migraines as first thought. Has done sediment rate test and it was negative. Can I have a negative see rate test and still be positive for temporal arteritis? He prescribes Hydrocodone/apap and Flexeril for some back pain that I have, could these meds have a relation to temporal arteritis as they seem to make the headaches worsre

Hi,

It would have been useful to know your age as temporal arteritis appears only with the advancing of age. Anyway a normal erythrocyte sediment rate test doesn't exclude the diagnosis, it may be normal in 7-20% of patients with temporal arteritis. If he strongly feels that is the diagnosis a CRP test is also necessary, it has a higher sensitivity, is raised in 98% of cases, so if that is normal as well diagnosis would be really unlikely. As for Hydrocodone and Flexeril causing headache, in theory it is possible, they both may have headache as a side effect, but it is not common, happens in less than 5% of patients, so other causes must be excluded before attributing that to drugs.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
