Do Allopurinol And Prednisone Cause Elevated Blood Sugar Levels?

I m type two diabetic and my sugar levels have gone very high the last few days in the twenties I have started new medications for uric acid called allopurinol and prednisone so I don t get a gout attack could that be the cause of the high blood sugar levels

Hello,

Prednisone absolutely can cause your blood sugar to go up and this is certainly the cause. I would discuss this with your doctor and maybe you can use a different medication for gout such as colchicine or indomethacin.

Or, if you don't have any gout attack now, you may not need any medication at all as you start allopurinol.
