Hello Doc, My wife is having problem of disc herniation. She is having pain in her lower back, back right thigh, right calf and in the right ankle in her legs. Doctors have only prescribed pain killers for her. What is the right treatment to be taken immediately since i cannot see her suffering from severe pain regards Jayesh
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
In disc herniation, oral pain killers with muscle relaxants are the first line of treatment. In case the response to medical treatment is poor, then surgical discectomy is considered. This can be decided after evaluation the MRI reports.

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query,
I understand her back pain . in disc herniation nerves get compressed by the protruded disc.
There are several treatment modalities with medicines, physiotherapy and with injections in the back called epidural injections and root/facet blocks.
If she dont get better with these treatment , surgery is another option, by which the nerves are decompressed by removing the protruded disc (discectomy), which would significantly improve your symptoms
