Diarrhea, Rash On Trunk. Prescribed Flagyl, Probiotics. Doed Flagyl React With Atenolol Or Aspirin. Suggestions?

My 87 yo Mom is having diarrhea from a two week course of clindamycin that ended 7/17. She had a bad rash on her trunk and now diarrhea. Today at the ER we found out she is positive for c-diff, THe Dr. prescribed flagyl three times a day. We were told to also take a probiotic twice a day. I have two questions.......does the flagyl interact with either atenolol, lisinopril, simvastin or aspirin? #2........... is there anything else we should be doing so that her diarrhea doesn't get worse. AB"s caused this problem in the first place.

Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

Flagyl (metronidazole) may interact with simvastatin. There are no known interactions between the flagyl and the other medications mentioned.

In terms of the simvastatin and flagyl interaction- there is a possibility of peripheral neuropathy. This may or may not occur, she may not experience any problems. Peripheral neuropathy is damage to the nerves in the peripheral system (nerves not in the brain and spinal cord). It can present with weakness, abnormal sensations, twitching.

The use of the probiotics would help with the resolution of the diarrhoea.
She may want to avoid the use of milk products, fatty foods, gas producing foods (brussel sprouts, cabbage, beans, broccoli, cauliflower).

I hope this helps
