Diagnosed With Pectus Excavatum

I am 35 and have pectus excavatum. I have most recently been having some breathing issues. I have had a normal CXR and normal PFT's and normal echo. My chest CT is showing that my pectus excavatum is changing the position of my cardiomediastinal structures. Should I be worried? Do I need corrective surgery?

thanks for your question
pectus excavatum is the commonest deformity of chest which is congenital

If pectus excavatum is causing problems for either the heart or lungs, your doctor may recommend surgery.

Surgery for pectus excavatum has been shown to cause great improvement of symptoms because of changes in heart and blood vessel (cardiovascular) function.

Your surgeon will discuss with you the best surgical approach to correct your condition.

The main goals of pectus excavatum repair are to improve the patient’s breathing, posture, and cardiac function.
These objectives can be accomplished with several surgical procedures.
