Diagnosed With Hashimotos Thyroiditis, Swelling In Throat, Hoarse Voice. Been On Steroids. How Long Will It Last?

Hi I have been diagnosed with hashimotos thyroiditis.Been on 10 mg steroids for 4 months now. Have tried to go down recently to 7.5 mg but after 3 days my throat swelled up and was very tight. And now I have a very hoarse voice. I went to a ear nose and throat specialist at first now with a new dr. but... feel like I need to goto another specialist cause nothing is any better.... I guess I just would like to know what the heck is going on and why I keep feeling this way and I want to get off these steroids. How long does this last?

Hello,
Thanks for your Query. You Have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. It is a Auto Immune disorder ie.. your thyroid gland cells are destroyed by your own immune response. This result in Hypothyroidism. You have take Levothyroxine ie.. replacement of thyroid. You must take Thyroxine for lifetime. Your Thyroid gland is inflamed, thts why your doctor put you on steroids. Once the inflammation decreases, tapers the steroid dose and take Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs. Please consult with Endocrinologist for further issues if any.

Take care
