Diagnosed Cancer Of Esophagus. Can Daily Dose Of Citalopram Reduced When Nexium Is Taken?

Is it safe to reduce my daily dose of Citalopram from 40 mg daily to 20 mg? I am 76 years old and have just been diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus. I want to take Nexium, but the pharmacist told me the maximum safe dose of Citalopram when taking Nexium is 20 mg daily.

Yes ,you have to reduce your dose of citalopram because Nexium can cause an increase in your blood levels of citalopram by interacting with the enzyme that metabolizes citalopram.

If the dose is not reduced,it may cause some side effects like irregular heart beats which can be life threatening.
Dizziness, light headness, difficulty to breath are some of the symptoms if present you should be wary of.

SO you have to reduce your dose of citalopram which is not only safe but also prevent any drug reaction as you are taking nexium.
