Diabetic, having numbness, tingling, burning in both feet and toes. Is it due to bad circulation?

I am having numbness, tingling and burning in both my feet and toes. I am diabetic; but the medications that i am taking dont help with this problem. Im wondering if its bad circulation in the both feet?? My dad has bad circulation in his left leg. He started out having half his foot removed, then the whole foot, then right below knee and then last week he had to have the leg taken off right above the knee. Can something like this run in the family?? I was laid off back in Oct 2011 and lost my insurance; so I dont have money or insurance now to go to the doctor. This problem is worrying me alot. It keeps me awake every night...pain is worst at night. I get about 2-3 hours of sleep every night...when I fall to sleep. I can go 2 days and not have any sleep. Any suggestions?? I cant even go to my Oncologist ...havent been since May 2009.

Diabetologist 's  Response
it is true that diabetes runs in families, and the way the body acts to balance glucose levels with and without medication also have some similarities within family members
but age ,diet ,activity, modern medication can help to change such condition
so dont get panic
the problems you explained points me to poor circulation to lower limbs and neuropathy
but the grades and extent of the problem can be assessed only by physical examination.
please see to it that you go to a doctor ,(atleast for consultation ,to know what your condition is )
so that if your doctor says you are normal ,the stress will be relieved
because stress makes you lose grip over the blood glucose control even though you are given good medication

even if you doctor finds that you have a poor circulation ,find out the exent of the problem so that you can plan well

spending sleepless nights just causes you harm and nothing else
please remember this

maintaining strict diet, activity, medication helps you to control the rate of damage to your body
will power is what matters(more when you are not financially capable)
please donot neglect
take care
