Could Vaginal Infection Be Delaying Post-pregnancy Menstruation?

Hello Doc, i have had a vaginal infection which caused me severe itching in and around the vaginal area including the flaps of the labia. my doc prescribed me to insert gyno travogen cream for 7 days. the itching cleared for almost 2 weeks and now it has started again along with white vaginal discharge. i have had my baby 2 months back and i breastfeed him aswell. my periods are also due but not starting although i do feel menstural cramps. what can be the reason for them not starting? please help

Hello,
Thank you for your query.

Breast feeding mothers can be faced with delayed return of ovulation and hence menstruation, sometimes even upto a year.
The minimal safe period is 2 months after which it is possible for you to ovulate erratically with irregular menstruation.
This is when you should start to use contraception after discussing with your OBGYN about the best option for you.

As long as you breast feed, irregular cycles may occur.
There is nothing to worry.
Cycles return to normalcy once you stop breast feeding, sometime even before. It depends on person to person

Vaginal discharge with itching could mean a fungal infection.
Once confirmed by your doctor this needs appropriate treatment and for a longer duration (if recurrent). Please consult your OBGYN regarding this.
Vaginal infection does not delay return of menstrual cycles.

Hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health
