Could Tonsillitis Lead To Anxiety?

Hi. I have a history of anxiety disorder. For this normally I take as needed .25-.5 mg Clonazepam. In the last week, I have been having swollen tonsils, and after conculting a doctors (they ruled out strep), I have been prescribed z-pack, which I am taking for 2nd day now. I am also experiencing a lot of anxiety for the last few days. This morning I by myself thought that my tonsillitis and stuffy head, nose and lungs, ears, red eyes are caused by allergies, and I took claratin 12 hours readytabs, which in addition to making me feel better also calmed down my anxiety, however now (14 hours past) the anxiety came back. My question is: can tonsillitis cause anxiety? Can allergies cause anxiety? Can alergies cause tonsillitis?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

There is no evidence based studies that tonsillitis or allergies can cause anxiety.
However, the medications that are used to treated allergies has a sedative side effect.
This effect can also help in reducing anxiety.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
