Hi Dear,

Good day. It is unclear what kind of thyroid disorder you suffer from.

Yes, thyroid disorders could affect your testosterone levels in a number of ways.

While having Thyroid disorder, your total serum testosterone level can vary based on another protein called sex hormone binding globulin(SHBG). SHBG levels vary widely when you have a thyroid disorder and thus testosterone levels could also vary. To eliminate this, we need to do a test called Free Testosterone and this is only done in sophisticated labs in a reliable way.

Sometimes hypothyroidism cause elevation of another hormone called Prolactin which also can result in reduced levels of testosterone.

In addition, occasionally thyroid disorder can be due to conditions like hypopituitarism, haemochromatosis ( high iron levels) etc, which can lead to low testosterone levels and low thyroid hormone levels. Your endocrinologist will be able to explain things better.
